Still Under Construction!!!
I have no idea when to expect that they'll be fully operational.
Please give me time . . . and check back soon!

Cool Computing

I have been a computer user for quite a number of years, in the relative spectrum. Anyhow, I just started taking my first programming course this summer, and I have enjoyed it all so far (though we haven't done much). I take the CIS-15AG course at De Anza Community College. So far, I haven't had to write too many programs, but those that are complete can be seen here. Size.exe (which doesn't want to download usually, but feel free to try), and if you are interested in the source code, it can be seen here (and you can compile it yourself if you want to see the wonders of my programming skills). I was working on a slightly suped-up version of the program that was supposed to work a little better on Windows9x systems, but it didn't turn out too well. The version above is the one I turned in, and here you can see the source code of our newest assigment, a simple program that calculates tax due based on an entered income and predefined tax rates. I was also finally able to implement the quit feature I had tried to use with the size program. Soon you will be able to find the source code for the next assignments, as I complete them.

OK, I admit it, I got lazy. I never really kept up with posting my various programs from De Anza. In fact, I didn't change this during a whole school year at Yeshiva University. I switched majors from Engineering, of a then undecided flavor, to Computer Science!!! Of course every time I tell people this, they say something to the effect of, "Smart move, did it for the money, eh?" NO!!! I did it because I like computers, always have, and always will, except during those brief (albeit frequent) moments of frustration. Though I previously had little experience programming, I have found that it is something that I not only enjoy, but I'm also halfway decent at.

So anyways, this past year (99-00) I took a ton of CS classes, including:

  • Discrete Structures (I & II) with Dr. Arnold Lebow
  • Intro to Programming in C++ II with Dr. Jerry Waxman
  • Data Structures with Dr. Michael Breban
  • Computer Organization & Assembly Language Programming with Dr. Seymour Goodman
  • Linear Algebra (a CS requirement, though not actually a CS course) with Dr. Norman Rosenfeld

This year (00-01) I am taking/have taken the following CS classes:

  • Algorithms with Dr. Michael Breban
  • Theory of Computation with Dr. Bojana Obrenic
  • Networking and Communications with Dr. Bojana Obrenic
  • Data Base Systems with Dr. Michael Breban

This past summer (00) I worked for SurroMed, Inc., a blood diagnostics company in Palo Alto, CA. I wrote an image viewer that had some specific, but limited, editting capabilities. I used MFC (something I didn't know at all before starting), which works on top of C++ (something I know decently). It's a bit difficult, but definately a learning experience.

This coming school year (00-01), I will be a senior (yay!!!) at YU, and I'll be taking several more CS classes (see above), as well as the remaining general requirements needed to graduate.

And now, I plan to provide something useful! Can you believe it?!?!? Me neither. Anyways, in my relatively large numbers of years using computers, I've gained a fair amount of experience, both in hardware and software. I've often found myself being called upon by friends, family, and friends of family for help. A lot of problems are simple, and a lot of problems can easily be avoided, and it is to that end that I have set up my Computer Zone webpage. Go there. Now!

    Join AllAdvantage.com

You may be wondering why I stuck one ad on this page and the same one my homepage, and no others. The reason is that AllAdvandage.com is a nifty offer. They are actually willing to pay you to surf the web. (And of course they pay me for everyone who surfs the web who signed up from my page, so go ahead and click on their banner now, before you forget.) But anyhow, it is a deal worth at least looking into, and if you are concerned about their legitimacy, I happen to know some of the people involved in the company, and it really is for real. So check it out!

Well, I don't know if I feel quite the same anymore. AllAdvantage just changed the rules. They reduced the number of hours per month that they will pay their users to surf, and only raised the hourly "wage" a tiny amount. It wasn't the best of deals before, and not it downright stinks. To make matters worse, I am awaiting word on a check that has yet to arrive from a month or two ago. What do you think? Let me know.
